The Nashville Scene’s “Best of Nashville 2013” edition has named Blackbird Theater’s production of AMADEUS the Best Drama of 2013.

“Blackbird Theater again traveled the ambitious high road this past year, scoring big with a serious yet accessible production of the challenging Peter Shaffer bio-fantasy about Mozart and the court composer Salieri…” writes theatre critic Martin Brady. “The stellar performances by leading players Brian Webb Russell and Brent Maddox were backed up by equally strong supporting actors, all under Wes Driver’s firm direction.”

“The Blackbird family is thrilled and humbled to receive this recognition,” said Managing Director Greg Greene. “The Scene has been at the center of Nashville culture for years and they’ve been a big champion of Blackbird’s efforts from the beginning.”

Previous recognitions in the Scene’s “Best of Nashville” include Best New Play of 2010 for TWILIGHT OF THE GODS, Best Ensemble Performance of 2011 for ARCADIA, and Best Musical of 2012 for PACIFIC OVERTURES.
